Comparing ourselves to other people can be extremely dangerous to our lives. Do you ever feel as if you compare your life to others? There are so many different levels of comparison. There are some comparisons that seem so small and innocent, and some that are literally taking over your life because you feel as if you are lesser than until you match your life to whatever you are comparing it to. No matter how big or how small your comparisons are they can absolutely be destructive to your life.
Imagine your life without comparison, what would your life look like if you were in your own happy world and there were no other people to compare to? As if you had no idea that anything could be better or worse than the life that you are living in this moment. Don’t you just want to take a deep breath and relax in this unrealistic moment?
We do indeed live in a world where we have so much pressure on us to be perfect mothers, perfect wives, have the perfect large house that is spotless clean all the time, work your tail off because you will never be enough or have enough if you don’t. My list could go on only to have the same result that this life created by the standards of “people” is unrealistic. Social media can lead us to believe different, but I can tell you for a fact that even the people that look like they have the perfect lives do not have it all together. I believe some people can pretend better than others, but we all have struggles. They might be very different, but they are still there.
May we focus on our own lives and our own blessings, while uplifting each other knowing that we all have our own struggles. Let us focus on being content with the beautiful mess of a life that we might have. We cannot “do it all” but we can focus on what truly matters in life and rest in all that is good.
“Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else.”
