Happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me, this is the last year of my 20’s! Ahhhh! Even the thought of turning a decade can be so difficult. Some people have a sense of the “birthday blues” no matter what age they are turning. People typically gain depression from the fact that they are getting older, or from the fact that they have not reached the goals or accomplishments they desired to meet by the specific age they are turning.
Personally, I have experienced both of these scenarios. This year I took a new approach on my birthday. I have always shared my birthday with April Fool’s day (I’m convinced there isn’t a single joke that hasn’t been played on me), but on this special year I got to share my birthday with Easter. Easter is such a special holiday to me, and to all of creation that believes in our savior Jesus, and what he has done for his people: Click here to read my Easter post.
I truly think that sharing my birthday with such a special day has put a whole new perspective on birthdays in general. Birthdays should be a day of celebrating of our lives, that we are still here on Gods beautiful earth, and that he has blessed us with another year. We should be grateful for our pasts, because our pasts have made us stronger. We must understand that having mistakes to learn from is a good thing!
Here are 5 ways to celebrate your next birthday with a “bang” and a celebration mindset.
1) Count your blessings:
We are thriving in blessings, we just need to open our minds and hearts to see them. Focusing on negative things in life will surly bring our spirits down. Get a pen and paper, and write down all of your blessings that you have experienced in the past year, or general life blessings that you have experienced.
2) Realize that you HAVE achieved enough:
We all have goals and expectations of ourselves and our lives. This is a good thing, but we also need to set limits for our expectations. It is a hard thing to wrap our minds around sometimes, but we are in the exact moment that God intended us to be in. We have achieved exactly what God meant for us to achieve by this point in our lives. We MUST trust in that, even if it doesn’t make sense to us. Click here to read my living in the moment post.
3) Know that growing older is a blessing:
We all have different perspectives in life depending on our past life experiences. I know that if I had a choice to go back to when I was younger, I wouldn’t. Building a family, having a cozy home, and food on the table is just enough for me. Now, if I could go back with the same knowledge I have now, I might think about going back (LOL). The truth is, that we can’t go back, and that is a good thing. We are who we are today because of the things we went through in our pasts. No matter how brutal our pasts might have been. God didn’t intend for us to be able to go back. So we must take our blessing of age and knowledge to move forward, using our pasts to help the people in front of us.

4) Plan your day, even if you are indecisive (like me):
You know where you like to eat. Just choose the first thing that comes to mind, and go with it, while realizing the fact that is doesn’t have to be extravagant. Getting your family and or friends together is what is important, don’t over plan. Let the people who love you celebrate you, take it all in and know that you are loved.
5) Know that you are beautiful:
Things change as we get older, and after we have children. Your body changes, everything looks and feels different, but you are beautiful! Treat yourself with a feel good birthday outfit, or dig in your closet for the one you haven’t worn in a while. Know that you are beautiful, with every wrinkle and body change, you are perfect!
***When you are beautiful on the inside, it will surely shine on the outside.***
